I started Add A Splash in early 2022 after my husband pointed out that I was giving away a lot of my artwork to friends and family and maybe it was time to start thinking of selling it on a more serious basis! I had found a love for creating tile art during lockdown - people say to practise mindfulness to manage stress - my tile art is my mindfulness. After a long day at the "virtual" office, I would step into my art area and disappear into a world of colour, inks and resin. I was fortunate that a good friend had introduced me to inks and tiles a couple of years before lockdown as part of her frequent crafting gatherings - so the process also gave me a strong mental connection back to a wonderful time with good friends.

My very first bag was made in response to the rainbows for NHS ask. I had some beautiful bright jellyroll material and the idea of making a bag that I could then carry with me as a show of support took hold. I foolishly didn't think to look up a pattern - assuming making a bag would be simple - and whilst it wasn't perfect, it was beautiful and practical and over 2 years later it is still my everyday bag. From there friends requested similar bags or specific unique colours/designs, and I found myself making bags when I wasn't working or looking after the children - or creating tile art!! I improved the style and design basis of the bags so that I could focus more on the aesthetics of the bag, rather than the technical method of making. The bags and the tiles have become my quiet space - where I can get lost in creating something new, unique and something that brings joy to the receiver.
